What To Expect

Being well-prepared for your appointment will ensure that the doctor has all of the needed information to provide the best possible care for you. It will also help alleviate any unnecessary anxiety you may be feeling prior to your first appointment. Educate yourself on your symptoms by reviewing the content on this Web site. Also, take some time to review our staff page and familiarize yourself with the providers. We look forward to your first visit.

Return messages

Every attempt will be made to return messages to our office by the end of the business day. Our office staff is highly experienced in answering most questions asked on the telephone. However, should it be necessary to consult the provider, we ask that you allow us 24-48 hours to relay the answer to you. Please allow requests for the provider to personally call or email you by the end of the following business day, although every effort will be made to answer these messages after office hours of the same day.

If you are experiencing an urgent matter, you may return to the clinic during our business hours to ask if the provider is available for a prompt evaluation. Should this occur after our office hours or if the provider is unavailable, we advise that you immediately call 911 or proceed to the nearest emergency room or urgent walk-in clinic to be evaluated.

Prescriptions

Your prescriptions will be printed or electronically submitted to the pharmacy of your choice by ePrescription or fax on the day of your visit. Please notify us of any changes to your choice of pharmacy for future office visits and/or refill requests. Most medications will usually be available the same day as your appointment unless they require a prior authorization. Please allow more time if your medication is sent to a specialty or mail order pharmacy, or if your provider advises you to allow for additional processing time. Please check with the pharmacy to ask if your medication is ready.

Prescription refills

Our providers will prescribe and provide enough medication and refills to treat you and your condition until your next scheduled appointment. However, it is important that you monitor your medications. If you miss your follow up appointment and have exhausted your medication supply, please call or message the office for refills. Do NOT wait until your last dose of medication to call for a refill!

When a refill of your medication is needed, we ask that you contact your pharmacy with the refill request rather than calling our office. Your pharmacy will then forward a refill request to our office. This will allow for more timely and accurate processing of your prescription. Please allow 48 business hours to complete the request once received. No prescription or change requests will be handled after regular hours or on the weekend. Whenever possible, the prescription will be refilled electronically to your pharmacy. If you use a specialty or mail order pharmacy, or if your medication requires a prior authorization, please allow for more time to process your request. Once it has been submitted, a staff member will contact you to let you know it has been sent.

Our providers will determine if a refill will be renewed on a case-by-case basis. For your protection, some medications require certain monitoring by more frequent office visits or laboratory studies, that may result in a denial of your refill request until you are seen by one of our providers in the office. For oral medications, biologics and some topical medications, patients needs to be seen every 6 months. We cannot refill any prescription if patients have not been evaluated within 12 months.

Pharmacy Issues

Some prescriptions may be delayed due to completing a PRIOR AUTHORIZATION form set forth by insurance companies. If your pharmacy denies the prescription or if the medication requires prior authorization, you must actively participate to help us in this process. Please contact your pharmacy so that a written request can be faxed to our office. If you do not hear from us within 48 business hours of your pharmacy sending us a request, CALL or MESSAGE US DIRECTLY. Under most circumstances we avoid calling insurance companies regarding patient prescriptions and authorizations; we try to handle these issues by fax and online. This way we can best use our time to serve you and other patients, instead of waiting for hours on hold.

PLEASE NOTE that prior authorization may require as much as two weeks. Although we actively address these requests each day, we have no control over the insurance company procedures and lengthy authorization processes.

Medication Cost

Our providers try to prescribe medications that will have an affordable out of pocket cost to you. In many cases, the cost of dermatologic prescriptions has skyrocketed. We attempt to keep the cost of medications under $50 per prescription. If your prescriptions are not affordable, please call the office or send us a message through the portal. We have many ways to help you receive your medication at a more affordable price. When medications are too expensive, we may choose an alternative (if available) or recommend a specialized mail order pharmacy. Our staff will direct you to the mail order pharmacy that may best meet your needs.
